Introduction
So, you chose Brasov as your Erasmus+ destination? Congratulations, you made a great choice and we are so excited to hear from you! This is a quick guide covering all the important information you may need when arriving in Brasov and for the first few days. We truly hope you are excited about your arrival and we can’t wait to meet you soon!
Getting here
We recommend travelling by plane as it’s the easiest way of arriving in Brașov. You can also come by car (you can check the border crossing status here) bus or by international train. On the next page you may find more information about each airport. You can also contact your country’s mission/embassy if you need more information about arriving in Romania.
You can also access the train timetables and get tickets on the mobile app. Here is the link to Google Play and App store.
There are a few private railway companies that operate trains with better conditions at cheaper prices than CFR, like Regio Calatori, Astra Trans Carpatic and Softrans. Check out Informatica Feroviara to see the timetable of all trains travelling on the route of your interest.
Starting the 3rd of September students in Romania will benefit from a 90% off discount from train ticket prices, but you will first need to check-in at the International Relations Office to receive a travelling license.
Please do take in mind that we do not use EURO in Romania, rather the Romanian Leu (RON). You can check the current exchange rate here and the places where you can exchange money in Brasov here. Using Revolut or Verse apps to exchange currencies is also a good and fast alternative.
For public transportation in Brasov city and surrounding areas, check routes and timetables here. You can buy tickets by card in the bus, from the driver using cash (in buses travelling outside the city), from the vending machines or desks in bus stations by cash or card also (they are not found in all bus stations) or by using the 24pay app. The app has more practical value as it is used in many other big cities of Romania as well.
Accommodation
If you are unable to get accommodation in the university dorms, you can look for rent here:
Please take in consideration that ESN Brasov is unable to look for accommodations for you and can only answer some of the frequently asked questions. You can always contact us to ask about the Erasmus groups in Brașov and discuss with other students.
International Relations Office
Your first stop in Brasov as Erasmus should be the International Relations Office of the Transilvania University of Brasov. Click to find the contact information and the address.
